JAZZ'N'MORE (06-2024) Alpha Edition
Jazzthing 11/2024-01/2025_Charlotte Lang

CONCERTO 6/2024

(translated from Czech) Her debut album The Journey is an exclusively original album. Some of the seven compositions were written during her stay in the United States, influenced directly by the diversity of creative approaches of her teachers. Each represents a dialogue with the listener, a conversation with them and their openness and level of understanding of her youthful passion and commitment to jazz. When Charlotte Lang's melodies and grooves begin their journey through the listener's ear, they cannot help but feel that there is something going on, that they are listening to a storyteller who has something to say. And that she puts her whole personality into them. Lang is accompanied by two different rhythm groups - one is electrified with guitar and bass, the other acoustic with piano and double bass. The diverse sound spectrum is then enhanced by the soloist with either alto or baritone, but it goes even further: it is spiced up by the additional tones of bass clarinet and flute; here gently, there more vigorously. Some of the tracks also feature guest vocalist Farayi Malek and alto saxophonist Katie Webster, both from the United States; also Zurich trombonist Lukas Reinert, with whom Lang develops a great dialogue in Common Ground. Silver Charm, which mixes the mists of the Rhine and Charles River, is also a wonderful piece. The album closes with another gem, Wholehearted, a testament to her passionate commitment to her art and determination to give her all in every note. Each track is a little gem, forming a sparkling collection. Her debut resonates long after the last notes have died away. Because her music is for the listener, not her ego!
